Madison Police Chief Noble Wray on Monday said he has
"no plans" to apply to lead Milwaukee's police force when that job
becomes vacant this year.
"We've got enough issues here in Madison to keep
me busy," Wray said. "I have no plans to put in for the Milwaukee
job."
Milwaukee Police Chief Nannette Hegerty said last week
she would retire effective Nov. 16. One of the few female police chiefs of a
major city in the country, Hegerty was appointed chief in Milwaukee in October
2003.
Wray, who grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from
UW-Milwaukee, was appointed Madison's police chief in October 2004.
